The Mysterious Realm of Gyanganj Yogashram
Situated in the high-altitude western region of Tibet north of the Indian Himalayas, Gyanganj Yogashram is an extraordinary, supernatural spiritual training center spanning a perimeter of approximately 16 kilometers. Originally known in ancient times as “Indra Bhawan,” this sacred sanctuary was restored to its pristine glory around 1225 A.D. by Swami Gyananand Paramhansa, a direct disciple of Maharshi Mahatapa.

Life & Divine Miracles of Paramgurudev Shri Vishuddhananda Paramhansa
Born as Bholanath Chattopadhyay (Kashyap Gotra) on March 13, 1856, in Bondul village, Bardhaman District, West Bengal, India, Paramgurudev was the son of Shri Akhilchandra Chattopadhyay and Shrimati Rajrajeswari Devi. From early childhood, he possessed innate faith in God and divine forces.
The Divine Encounter & Journey to Gyanganj
After suffering a dog bite in his youth, Bholanath traveled to Hooghly in severe pain. Overwhelmed by suffering, he approached the holy Ganges River. There, he witnessed a saint practicing Kriya who could draw the river waters into his hands simply by extending them. The saint cured Bholanath instantly with a single touch and prescribed a mild medicine. Recognizing the saint’s immense power, Bholanath begged for initiation. The saint revealed he was not Bholanath's primary Guru, but gave him a sacred mantra and Kriya practice, promising they would meet again.
At age 14 in Dhaka, Bholanath met the saint again—revealed to be Paramhansa Nimanand, a Bengali Yogi then 500 years old. Through aerial transport (Akash Gamana), Swami Nimanand brought Bholanath directly to Gyanganj. There, he was presented to the great 1,300-year-old master, Maharshi Mahatapa. Bholanath received divine initiation and was given the name Visuddhanand.
23 Years of Rigorous Yogic Sadhana
For 23 continuous years, Visuddhanandji underwent intense spiritual discipline at Gyanganj:

Dandi: 4 Years
Sannyasi: 4 Years
Tirthaswami: 8 Years

Establishing Ashrams & Supernatural Manifestations
Under his Guru's direction, Visuddhanandji married Krishnabhamini Devi while holding the status of Visuddhananda Tirthaswami. He resided in Guskara for 30 years, earning a living through Vedic astrology and homeopathy. Later, under divine directions from Gyanganj, he established holy Ashrams at Bondul, Bardhaman, Puri, Varanasi (Visuddhananda Kanan), and Kolkata. The King of Jhalda, Raja Uddhab Singha Roy, also built and dedicated an Ashram at Jhalda to Swamiji.

Gurudev Shri Sarosi Mohan Chattopadhyay: The Divine Bridge
Born on October 18, 1924 (5th Kartik), Shri Sarosi Mohan Chattopadhyay was the youngest grandson of Paramhansa Vishuddhanandaji and son of Durgadas Paramhansadev and Nivanoni Devi.
Academic Excellence & Spiritual Mastery
Shri Sarosi Mohan excelled academically, completing his education at Burdwan Municipal High School, Burdwan Raj College, and earning his M.A. from Calcutta University. After working as an officer in the Central Excise Department and practicing law at the Burdwan Judge Court, he eventually transitioned to a peaceful life sustained by agriculture. He married Ranu Mukherjee in 1963, fathering one son and three daughters.
Direct Lineage & Gyanganj Connection
Brought up under Baba Vishuddhananda’s direct guidance, Sarosi Mohan was a Gayatri Siddha. As a child sleeping beside Swamiji, he received Beej Mantras and instructions emanating directly from Baba’s divine body. At age 17, another exalted Yogi from Gyanganj secretly initiated Sarosi Mohan, instructing him to uphold Baba Vishuddhananda's sacred lineage.
Throughout his life, Gurudev Sarosi Mohan maintained direct communion with Paramgurudev Vishuddhananda and received guidance letters from Gyanganj regarding Ashram affairs. He was a master vocalist trained by the renowned Gyan Goswami and devoted his life to continuous Sadhana, testing seekers rigorously before granting initiation. He passed into Maha-Samadhi at the age of 90 on December 29, 2014, in Kolkata.
